Your Fresh 48 Session Prep Guide

A gentle, meaningful way to remember the very first days.

Congratulations on welcoming your little one! A Fresh 48 session is designed to document your baby’s first hours of life — tiny details, quiet connections, and the raw beauty of your family’s first moments together. These sessions take place in your hospital room within the first two days after birth and are completely baby-led, natural, and stress-free.

Here’s what you need to know as you prepare:

What to Expect

  • Timing: Sessions occur within 24–48 hours after birth. I’ll coordinate with you (or a support person) once baby arrives to find the perfect window of calm.
  • Length: Sessions last about 45–60 minutes. This allows time for feeding, soothing, and capturing all those tender moments without rushing.
  • Approach: My style is documentary, which means no posing or props — just the real, honest beauty of these first hours.

What to Wear

  • Choose soft tones to keep the focus on your connection.
  • Cozy robes, or a favorite nursing-friendly top work beautifully for moms.
  • Simple, solid-colored shirts or henleys are perfect for partners.
  • Baby can stay in a hospital swaddle, plain onesie, or just their diaper with a blanket — tiny details like hospital hats and wristbands are part of the story.

What to Bring (Optional)

  • A special blanket or swaddle if you’d like a personal touch.
  • A simple onesie or gown you love.
  • Any small heirloom item (like a hat, bracelet, or letter board with baby’s name).
No need to overpack — we’ll keep things simple and meaningful.

Tips for a Smooth Session

  • Natural light works best. If possible, choose a time of day when your room has the most window light. I’ll gently move items in the room if needed.
  • Be yourselves. Snuggle, feed, rest, or simply gaze at your new baby — these are the moments worth remembering.
  • Siblings are welcome. If big brothers or sisters are visiting, this is perfect for documenting their first time meeting their new sibling!

After Your Session

Within one week (or at a time you feel comfortable……I know firsthand that sometimes new moms need a little extra time to acclimate to mom-life), we will meet either in your home, at my studio or over Zoom. You will view a hand-selected collection filled with images that reflect your family’s unique story. I will help you select the best way to preserve your memories—whether through fine art prints, museum-quality wall art, or a handcrafted heirloom album. These pieces are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt, held, and passed down.

Your only “job” is to soak up this fleeting time — I’ll handle the rest.
