I am thrilled to be adding “Fresh 48 Sessions” along with Birth Photography to my services. There is nothing I love more than documenting real life moments & I couldn’t think of a better way for you to start collecting these memories than to have a photographer capture them for you so you can be present.
A Fresh 48 session is a special photography experience that takes place within the first two days after your baby’s birth, usually at the hospital, birth center, or even in your home. Unlike a full birth session, it doesn’t capture labor and delivery—it focuses on those tender first hours of life when everything feels new, raw, and full of emotion. These sessions beautifully document the tiny details that change so quickly: wrinkled fingers and toes, first yawns, snuggles with parents, and siblings meeting the baby for the first time. The result is a natural, heartfelt story of your baby’s earliest moments and your family’s first memories together.
Birth is one of life’s most profound experiences. It’s raw, emotional, and beautiful in ways that words often fail to capture. Many families are choosing to document this sacred time through birth photography—not for staged or posed images, but for a heartfelt record of the story as it naturally unfolds.
What Birth Photography Really Is
At its core, birth photography is storytelling. It’s about documenting the quiet strength of a mother, the steady support of her partner, and the incredible moment a new life enters the world. These photographs are not about “performing” for the camera or looking a certain way—they are about preserving memories that otherwise pass in a blur.
Every laugh between contractions, every hand squeeze, every tear of joy—they’re part of the story that deserves to be remembered.
Capturing Birth Authentically
Authentic birth photography means letting things happen naturally. There are no poses, no retakes, no interruptions. Instead, the photographer observes quietly, finding beauty in the real, unscripted moments:
- The way the light falls across the room.
- The embrace of a partner offering comfort.
- The moment of first eye contact between mother and baby.
Authenticity also comes from understanding that birth is unpredictable. A skilled photographer is prepared to adapt—whether that means dim lighting, a fast-paced delivery, or unexpected changes to a birth plan.
Respecting the Boundaries of the Birthing Mother
Perhaps the most important part of birth photography is respect. Birth is deeply personal, and every mother has her own level of comfort when it comes to what is documented. Before the big day, the photographer and parents will discuss boundaries, preferences, and expectations.
This may include:
- Deciding what parts of labor and delivery to capture.
- Understanding which moments are private and which can be photographed.
- Keeping the focus on emotion, connection, and story—not necessarily on graphic details (unless that’s what the family wishes).
The role of a birth photographer is not to take over the space, but to move quietly, intuitively, and respectfully—ensuring that the birthing mother always feels safe, supported, and in control of her story.
Why It Matters
Birth is fleeting. The details fade faster than most parents expect. Having these memories preserved means being able to relive not only the moment your baby arrived, but the love, strength, and connection that carried you through it.
Authentic birth photography gives you a gift: a true and timeless reflection of your journey into parenthood.
