Positioning your hands naturally…..so many people tell me they have no idea what to do with their hands. All they really need is a job to avoid stiff arms & clenched hands. It’s all part of the posing process. We can do different things based on whether your sitting on a piece of furniture, the floor or standing. Wearing pants with pockets is always a great trick because you can’t go wrong with lightly placing your hand in your pocket to relax your arm.
If we are working together for a branding session & you have “props” — having something to hold onto works really well too. I took a couple selfies at my studio last month (yes I do have two cameras–okay, actually three–a good photographer always has backup equipment!–so one to hold & one to shoot the photo). You can see that my shoulders are a little more relaxed in the photo when I have something to hold onto. I very easily could help a client look more relaxed without anything to hold too–it’s just harder to do for myself when I have to look straight at the camera instead of how the person is posing.
