You know it’s terribly cold when the ski resorts close for the day. I was scrolling through Instagram yesterday and one by one, I saw Trollhaugen, Wild Mountain and Welch Village come across my screen as closed due to the cold.
Last year we had a season pass to Trollhaugen. This year we have hopped over to try out Wild Mountain for the season. It has been fun to hit different locations, but I’ve found I have a preference depending on what gear I have. I was once strictly a skier. Then we had kids and they all decided to snowboard because my husband does and apparently it was way cooler. So what did I do? I decided to become a snowboarder and learned how to get down the hill without hurting myself too badly. Of course, once I got comfortable with snowboarding, one of my kids switched to skiing. I was dedicated to becoming a better snowboarder so I stuck with it. This year, our youngest also decided to switch over to skiing as well. I had no choice but to go back. She is way too fast on skis and I am WAY too slow on a snowboard, so now it doesn’t matter where we go, I have to be a skier if I want to keep up with the rest of my crew.
Someday I’ll get to snowboard again. Hopefully up in Duluth. Spirit Mountain runs are amazing and so wide, which is exactly what this rookie needs to get down the hill without plowing people over.

With the weather being quite cold, there isn’t a big demand for outdoor sessions. Winter is actually a fantastic time to get outside for portraits. The light is less harsh and the snow makes for a pretty scene. Gather those cute hats and coats for a winter session and a thermos of hot chocolate and let’s capture some Minnesota winter memories!
I know my camera will be coming with me the next time we hit the slopes at Wild Mountain. I need some action shots of my family doing what they love.
Until next time,
